Research expertise

Biogeochemistry and ecosystem impacts of microbial activities in the carbon and nitrogen cycle. Humans have greatly disturbed the global nitrogen cycle and the research in our lab is aimed at characterizing the fate and consequences of excess nitrogen in various ecosystems.

Our research covers various levels, from the role of bacteria to the effects of commercial fisheries on the global displacement of nitrogen, and the impact of invasive species on biogeochemical cycles. We have a number of projects under way involving Quebec and US lakes and rivers, the St. Lawrence Estuary and the Arctic Ocean.
